While talking about skin abscesses and pus, the topic of acne has probably entered your mind. What is it and is it different than a boil? The answer to the second question is "yes", but read on to find out why and how.

What is it? Pimples, or zits, are clogged pores that get inflamed and fill with pus to create a pustule (the white cap). It has the same etiology (i.e. mechanism of formation) as an abscess but involved a pore becoming blocked.  Bacteria  are involved in acne, an outbreak of pimples, spreading among pores. The bacteria is Propionibacterium acnes.
